Felixstowe

Suffolk's hidden treasure

A series of straight rock groynes, along with a walkway connecting Cobbold’s Point to Jacob’s Ladder, has been chosen as the preferred option by SCDC.

Residents are invited to view details of the preferred option and have their say at an exhibition, which will be held on Monday, March 30 from 1pm to 7pm at Felixstowe Town Hall.

Engineering consultants Mott Macdonald and Terry Oakes Associates, who are undertaking the work on behalf of Suffolk Coastal, will have staff on hand at the exhibition to answer any questions.

If people cannot attend the exhibition, details of the plans will be available to view at www.projecttownbeach.com. Comments can be made by emailing consult@terryoakes.com or writing to Terry Oakes Associates Ltd, PO Box 186, Lowestoft, Suffolk, NR33 0WY, England. Any residents wanting more information can call Victoria Tonks on 020 8774 3902.

Note that new pathway goes to Jacobs Ladder meaning that there will still be no wheelchair access to the Ferry.

Is issuing a press release late on a Friday afternoon for a consultation to take place the following Monday a cynical tactic?

A bit more of the press release:

“We have taken into account comments made by local people, Suffolk Coastal members, Felixstowe Town Council, the Environment Agency and other organisations in deciding what kind of coast defences would best protect the homes, businesses and recreation facilities along this stretch of the coast,” said Cllr Andy Smith, Cabinet Member for Coast Defence.

“The exhibition will give people the opportunity to see plans for the preferred option and learn how the work would be carried out and what materials engineers would like to use.

“It is vital that people comment on the plans so that we know whether or not it truly represents what they want, so I would urge residents of Felixstowe to come along and let us know what they think,” added Cllr Smith.
