Kids, don't be bored - it's easy to say that in Felixstowe, and I don't know how you get along, what do you do with yourselves, but being bored is so... boring. We need a place for us all to use. I wanted to use the Spa Pavilion, but we didn't ha...

I was a product of a large school. Perhaps I'm dysfunctional? Probably. The school I attended was split into 3 schools on the same site - lower (yr 1&2) middle and 6th form (lower & upper). Being split up like that helped as you felt less like a...

I've just submitted a contribution to the Local Development Plan currently being offered for consultation by Suffolk Coastal DC. I appreciate that there are legal obligations to be considered but the whole plan is disappointing. It's not easy to ...

Reluctant as I should be to intervene between two politicians research does suggest that smaller schools can be better, particularly in areas that are socially deprived (and that's the case in parts of Felixstowe). With about one in five of our ch...

Not quite sure where Bernard Price's research comes from. What I do know is that one of the most sought after schools in East Suffolk, Northgate in Ipswich, has more than 1720 pupils. There's a waiting list with parents trying hard to get their ch...

Research suggests that schools with more than 1000 pupils do not perform as well as smaller schools. We need new school buildings so:- 1. Combine the schools (use Deben site for affordable and social housing) 2. Build the new school as an educatio...

Hi Trevor...

I wish I had known you needed so much stuff for the new studio... I've just had another sale this weekend, but half way through I decided to just give it all away... ugh..!!

Let me know what you still need, as I'm still sifting through and decluttering, I may have some bits to help... I'll pop along to the studio as well, as the boys and I are looking to volunteer for some local community projects... not sure what help we would be... but the offer is there... :0)

Blessings

Skillset Conference on Radio

I'm off to Brighton on 23rd Feb. At my own expense I must add, don't want anyone thinking I'm off on a Jolly, although my indulgence on this trip has been to book a double bedroom in the guest house because single rooms are always an afterthought stuck in a garret or above the kitchens at the back with nothing but a brick wall beyond the slit of a window.

Why Brighton? Skillset, a government agency concerned with training, has organised a first-ever conference about training for radio http://ww… Continue

Composting advice

Compost: is that a polite description for what's happening to the country?

No, it's what it says. Compost is vital to us all. We throw away about one-third of all the food we buy. That's partly because of sell-by dates, but also two-for-price-of-one offers that we grab, and then never use, and just because we are profligate in our use of precious resources.

That's likely to change. Present predictions for the economy are dire, and we still don't have a viable alternative for oil, althou… Continue

Reflections for Tomorrow

It's customary at year's end to look back, and hopefully gain some insight that could help in the coming year. Traditionally that process would have started with the end of the harvest around Halloween and lasted through the dark days of winter. Today we are more rushed.

The Local Development Framework currently being prepared by Suffolk Coastal District Council should make us all pause for thought. It's not just the inconsistencies it reveals or the anachronism of a process that's clearly cost… Continue

Port Expansion

My old car died recently and went to the scrapyard, who said they would have paid me £150 two months ago but demand, mainly from China, had dropped off, so they just took my old friend away.

Yet there are those making plans for the future. Felixstowe Port has started upon a massive expansion. From three million containers handled this year it will grow to nine million. There will be thirteen new cranes on a brand-new dock, and the railway line dualled to take additional traffic.

This brings mo… Continue
