We are nearly there. It's been three years since we sat around a table talking about the idea of a community radio station. We had to understand the technology, raise some money, start broadcasting in the front room of a small terraced house, and then to complete a 54 page application form to apply for a licence. A search for premises, and more money, followed.
The studio's were built, with great support from a number of sponsors - all of whom will be recognised in due course, and a music shop…

This is a Thank you from the Friends of Felixstowe Seafront gardens for the work put in by the members of Felixstowe Bored Kids at our monthly weeding session. It shows that young people do care about the twon and are prepared to DO something. We need more young and lots of older people who are prepared to help get the renovation of the gardens into reality.

We need a place to meet
Felixstowe Bored Kids

We knew that the old LIX'S night club had been shut down. i remember it when it was opened as a night club. i remember it when it was a hotel, I am not willing to say how far back i remember it as a hotel but lets say it was a long long time ago,
The building go's back to 1887 and there is an order to make the area that the hotel stands on a conservation area in June it go's before th…

Having moved to Felixstowe last September after living with the 'concrete cows' in Milton Keynes for more than 30 years... I am wondering why it took me so long to move here...
20 years ago I did a brief stint in Ipswich and barely visited Felixstowe and when I did it was with a 'boyfriend', who didn't do it justice... Now, I feel like I have come home, its hard to remember, or imagine myself living anywhere else in the UK.
My sons who will be 12 and 14 next month, love living here and we are…

As the weather jogs along towards a promised summer there's still a threat in the air of high winds, perhaps even a cold spell, to blow the blossom away.
Let's be positive. It's not been too bad this week. Felixstowe will gain at Southampton’s expense as Maersk Line reorganises its Asia-Europe AE1 service from next month as it will be the westbound UK port of call from May and eastbound in June.
Times are hard and this week Hutchison asked its 2,700 workforce to accept pay cuts of up to 11% in…

Local skateboarders, BMXers and bladers will soon be able to perfect their tricks and jumps in Felixstowe now the contract to build a skatepark in the resort has been awarded.
Building work will finally start at the site of the new £180,000 skatepark, at Orwell Green in Felixstowe, after the Easter holidays, and it should be completed and open for the summer.

Olympic Fightback: how Councils should make the most of 2012.
Having a Liberal Democrat Town Councillor as a member of the Felixstowe & District Sports Council, we are aware of the hard work a number of clubs and individuals within the peninsula have been undertaking to engage Suffolk with the London Olympics of 2012.
It is therefore with surprise, regret and concern that we note the civic and commercial damage being caused to the town, its commercial interests and Sports Clubs by some ill…

I'm off to Brighton on 23rd Feb. At my own expense I must add, don't want anyone thinking I'm off on a Jolly, although my indulgence on this trip has been to book a double bedroom in the guest house because single rooms are always an afterthought stuck in a garret or above the kitchens at the back with nothing but a brick wall beyond the slit of a window.
Why Brighton? Skillset, a government agency concerned with training, has organised a first-ever conference about training for radio http://ww…

An independent consultancy firm has been commissioned by Suffolk Coastal District Council to investigate leisure provision for Felixstowe and the Trimleys. They are holding public meetings (see events) and have produced a questionnaire which is available as a paper copy or online at the SCDC website. The deadline for the survey is 14th February, the results of which will form the body of opinion in the final report. They want our opinions on everything leisure related in the area. That means art…

The world is changing.
We are now realising that the institutions upon which we have relied cannot always be trusted. There is instability, and so we must begin to look towards ourselves. How can we survive?
Life is now complex and interrelated and communities should be supportive. How that can be achieved is a central theme. It is recognised by government, who frequently produce new community and environment projects. That these are centrally conceived and administrated often appears to be a…

Compost: is that a polite description for what's happening to the country?
No, it's what it says. Compost is vital to us all. We throw away about one-third of all the food we buy. That's partly because of sell-by dates, but also two-for-price-of-one offers that we grab, and then never use, and just because we are profligate in our use of precious resources.
That's likely to change. Present predictions for the economy are dire, and we still don't have a viable alternative for oil, althou…

It's customary at year's end to look back, and hopefully gain some insight that could help in the coming year. Traditionally that process would have started with the end of the harvest around Halloween and lasted through the dark days of winter. Today we are more rushed.
The Local Development Framework currently being prepared by Suffolk Coastal District Council should make us all pause for thought. It's not just the inconsistencies it reveals or the anachronism of a process that's clearly cost…

My old car died recently and went to the scrapyard, who said they would have paid me £150 two months ago but demand, mainly from China, had dropped off, so they just took my old friend away.
Yet there are those making plans for the future. Felixstowe Port has started upon a massive expansion. From three million containers handled this year it will grow to nine million. There will be thirteen new cranes on a brand-new dock, and the railway line dualled to take additional traffic.
This brings mo…
