Suffolk's hidden treasure
We started as a rain drop now we are a monsoon ! Will they listen to us now ?
Felixstowe Bored Kids
A new group set up in Felixstowe, Suffolk, UK, The group was started in March 2009 by our chairperson after leaving Felixstowe to go to London to find something better than she had had, After spending many years standing under the Pier in shelters etc: and having a son at 17 years of age she felt that there must be something better in our capital city. but after five months there she had only found that yes London had much more for her and her son to do and much more was on offer. it was the cost of living there that was the problem, So she made her way back to Felixstowe. then on talking over the time she had been gone with her family she came up with an out line idea of a group for the youth of Felixstowe that was run by them for them,
The idea was hatched and Felixstowe Bored Kids was born
OUR AIMS
We aim to divert young people who may be at risk of anti-social behavior to work towards constructive and contributing citizenship
and aid them with training to learn and gain achievements so that they can give back their time and knowledge that they have gained back to their local community's world wide.
THE FOCUS
Our focus area is all youth between the age's of 13-20 year olds but we also aim to show by example of the youth within our group the older generations that our youth of today can help teach, learn, and recognize problems and help and work with others to solve them.
WHAT WE ARE DOING AT THE MOMENT
At this moment in time we are doing this by way of entertaining our members with events and sports such as squash, football, badminton, and many others. which install a team effort, discipline, and an understanding of objectives and aims.
THE MEMBERSHIP
We have three parts to our group as follows:-
1) MEMBERS GROUP
For all 13-20 year olds who live within the Felixstowe area.
All events are free to these members.
2) MEMBERS EXTRA GROUP
For all 13-20 year olds who don't live in the Felixstowe area but come here on holidays etc.
All events are free to these members.
( Both groups are run by a committee made up of members taken from both groups. This is where all decisions are made for the whole group.)
3) ADVISORY TEAM
This is for all over 21 year olds
All events are free for this group.
(This is just an advisory group and play no running of the group.)
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE
We are looking to lease or rent a building in Felixstowe. so that we can have a place to meet as a group. that is warm, safe,friendly, and where our members can stay out of trouble,
A place that we can call our own. that can go to to talk, train, teach, and learn as a group,
FUNDING
We are looking for funding and we are receiving it in small amounts to cover our costs of events, insurance, etc. soon we will have to find bigger funding as the group grows,
We hope to be self funding in 5 years,
WE ARE A GROUP
We are a group who are here to stay and get bigger and bigger and the sooner some of the older generation start to relies this and start to offer help rather then brick walls the better it will be,
With or without us as a group the youth of the world will always be here and they will need to be guided in the right ways of life but all the time Seniors hold them back the more they are going to resent them, and that may be the day the youth turn on its older generations,
THIS IS NOT AN EVENT I WOULD WANT TO SEE,
Lets hope we can hold back more than one tide in Felixstowe,
And i call upon all people who can see this happening to cry out and help not only ourselves but all other youth groups who are finding it harder and harder to get past the red tape.
Why can the people in control not see that these are our next council members, mp's, teachers, and leaders of our armed forces,
Do they want to look back from their hiding hole and say i wish we had taken notice and not done it our way,
